Heat Pumps

Heat pump service.

Think of heat pumps as the multitaskers of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) world. They can do a little bit of everything.

During our hot summer months here in Idaho, heat pumps can cool your home or business by moving hot air to the outdoors, just like a central air conditioning (AC) unit. During our winter months, a heat pump works in reverse and transfers heat from the outdoors into your home or business.

A conventional HVAC system uses a furnace (or boiler) and an air conditioner to provide your heating and cooling needs. A heat pump fulfills the two different jobs with one unit and can work with your existing ductwork.

Plus, they help control the humidity levels inside your home to maintain your indoor air quality (IAQ).

Updating our clients informed about environmentally friendly and energy-efficient HVAC options is one of our favorite jobs here at Western Heating and Air Conditioning. We are a third-generation family-owned business that has been serving homes and businesses in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and the entire Treasure Valley since 1967.

Our A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, along with our five-star Google reviews, tells you we are a company that does things the right way.

How Do Heat Pumps Work?

Because heat pumps transfer heat rather than generating it, they are considerably cheaper to operate over a furnace or boiler.

The most common type of heat pump, an air-source heat pump, transfers heat through the air. Air-source heat pumps sold on the market today provide sufficient comfort for almost any climate. But you may want to consider an auxiliary heating source, such as a furnace, for those cold winter nights in the Treasure Valley when the outdoor temperature dips below 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Geothermal or ground-source heat pumps transfer heat from beneath the earth’s surface or an underground water source. These systems work exceptionally well in all climates. While they are costlier to install over a conventional HVAC system or an air-source heat pump, they tend to pay themselves off within seven years through lower utility bills.

Geothermal and air-source systems can practically heat and cool any home or commercial building in a wide range of climates. These systems integrate with your existing ductwork, making them perfect for retrofit projects.

Be sure to schedule an appointment with one of our professionals at Western Heating & Air Conditioning to help determine which system fits best with your property lot and budget.

Heat Pump Installation and Replacement

You can count on our experts at Western to recommend the best system for your Boise home and to correctly install it so that it runs at peak efficiency for years to come. Here are some factors to consider:

An air-source heat pump sets up like a central air conditioner, with an indoor unit and outdoor component.
Consider installing a ductless heat pump for your Meridian home, especially if you are planning an addition or renovation but do not want to extend your ductwork. A mini-split is much more secure and less visible compared to a window AC unit.

Property lot size and soil conditions will help determine which type of geothermal heat pump makes the most sense for your Eagle home.

You will often find rebates and energy tax credits to offset the cost of installing a geothermal system. On top of that, our company offers some of the most competitive financing packages in the entire Treasure Valley!

Heat Pump Repairs

The nice thing about these systems is they are very durable. If there ever is an issue with your heat pump, you can count on Western to diagnose the problem and quickly address it to restore your system to its full operating capacity.

There could be an issue with the refrigerant levels or the outdoor fan motor. Clogged filters or dirty coils could prevent your system from performing at peak efficiency. You can count on our repair experts to find the problem and fix it!

Geothermal Heat Pump Maintenance

Our VIP Blue Ribbon Service program at Western is designed for our residential clients to offset the cost of maintenance and scheduled service calls. It allows our professionals to catch a small issue before it turns into a big problem.

When it comes to maintaining your heat pump, our professionals can check the flow rate, the condition of the equipment, and other factors. If a zone control system is in place in your Meridian home, we can check to be sure the dampers inside the ductwork are working right.

Our Blue Ribbon program offers our residential clients a 15 percent discount on repairs, precision tune-ups, and professional cleanings, along with other perks. For our local businesses, we offer a Commercial Planned Maintenance program designed to fit your budget and needs.

Preventative maintenance plays a vital role in extending the life span of your HVAC equipment. These systems are large investments that add value to your home, not to mention an extra layer of comfort. “Russ came to check why our furnace was not working on Monday. He showed up at 4ish and diagnosed the problem, bad motor. The one on the truck had been previously installed and would not work. New motor came from Caldwell, ID today and Russ came back and installed the motor , and check to make sure everything was working correctly. Russ did a very professional job, would highly recommend him. The office staff however could use some help. It was very obvious that know one communicates with each other. We were told early today the part was in Caldwell, but it had to be shipped and not replaced until Thursday. This meant we were without any heat for four days, no t . We have been Blue Ribbon customers for almost 30+ years, and I guess that means nothing anymore.Overall we have been happy with the service we have received, but there needs to be some changes. You don’t treat customers in this fashion.”

“We had a leak from condensation in the exhaust pipe. Dennis came by with Taylor and agreed the problem should be resolved by realignment of the pipe from the furnace to the ceiling. He also installed a new updated thermostat. And, he performed the annual checkup on the furnace. We are assured our heat pump will not fail us over the coming winter.”
